Those who follow me on Instagram will know I have just got back from an amazing four day break to Amsterdam. If you haven’t been, can I suggest you pop it on your travel hit list – it is definitely one of my favourite European cities to date.
Mixing urban culture with rich history, the trip really was everything I wanted and more. A few days to break away from the norm, spend some quality time with the hubster and soak up everything this charming city has to offer.
If you love to wander, than Amsterdam is the place to be. Its compact core means you can simply meander through the atmospheric canal network all day, leaving you open to discover a whole host of different and unique neighbourhoods.
Narrow streets lined with flowers, quaint boutique shops, wonky canal houses and a cafe bar on every corner, it’s hard to imagine anyone not being captivated by this charming city.
For those visiting in spring (mainly April & May), make sure to take the short bus ride out of the city to the small town of Lisse. Here you can visit Keukenhof gardens which houses over 7 million flowers, filling the park with an array of colour and fragrance.
After exploring the gardens, make sure you hire a bike and cycle round all the rainbow fields that surround the park – this is a spectacle in itself and the perfect way to immerse yourself in the Dutch way of life.
We were a little early in March but still managed to see a few fields in bloom. If you’re a flower fanatic then best to plan your trip for late April.
No matter what you are into, I’m confident this city will serve you well!
Thanks for the memories Amsterdam! I can’t wait to come back and explore the Netherlands further!
